American journalist and editor with TIME magazine. Chambers was an active communist who renounced communism and became an active anti-communist. He created an international sensation when he revealed that blue-blooded American Alger Hiss had been a spy throughout much of his senior tenure at the U.S. State Department, and he helped to convict Hiss as a spy.
