Sir Robert Peel
1788 - 1850 | British politician who held various various responsible posts including Home Secretary in the early 1800's. Sometimes called "the father of modern policing", Peel established the first disciplined police force in London in 1829. The policemen became known as "Bobby's boys", or "bobbies". |
