Benjamin Nathan Cardozo
1870 - 1938

American jurist. Cardozo was appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court (1932-1938) by President Hoover to fill Oliver Wendell Holmes' seat upon his resignation. He was a forerunner of jurists who believe that the courts have a role in shaping public policy, and made liberal interpretations of the constitution in his bid to "modernize" jurisprudence.
